Abstract
This paper evaluates the idle users´ cell selection performance for 3GPP LTE system. The focus is on the impact that reference signal received power (RSRP) strength based cell selection algorithm have on the system performance measured in terms of number of cell reselections, time between two consecutive reselections and uplink SINR for an idle user to experience a reselection. Further, the call blocking probability when idle users initialize calls is studied as another important system performance indicator. Some cell selection algorithms based on RSRP measurements have been implemented in a dynamic system level simulator and have been studied for different parameter sets in a 3GPP LTE recommended simulation scenario. The results suggest some proper parameters set which can make good tradeoff between the average number of cell reselections and the average uplink SINR.
