Abstract
Heat exchangers are widely used in different industrial applications. This paper proposes a model based fault diagnosis system for heat exchangers based on parameter identification. Due to the physical meaning of the parameters, the definition of fuzzy rules to realize the fault classification is straightforward. A detailed thermodynamic model of a heat exchanger and a simplified state space model are described. The linear state space model is used for online parameter identification of the nonlinear process.
