Designing mobile support care for patients with chronic kidney disease

We assessed the feasibility and acceptance of using mobile phones as part of a web-based system that connects patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their physicians and other healthcare providers. We designed and developed a wireless connection from a blood pressure machine unit and wrist pulse-monitor to a web-based platform via patients´ mobile phones. The customized feedback messages were tailored based on a variety of health circumstances. Participants had complex positive and negative reactions to mobile-supported self-management of CKD. Some of the participants preferred to communicate directly with physicians or healthcare providers rather than get frequent automatic responses on their mobile phones from the web-based platform.
