Abstract :
AI-Malaria Eradication Plan (AIMEP) was launched by the Ashburn Institute, USA in 2012 to fight malaria in African countries. The AIMEP was developed as a result of years of research, in-depth expert consultations and practical applications of new ICT tools and technologies in the AI-led projects. A six-factor intervention model was adopted by the AIMEP as the most efficient strategy for implementing the infectious disease eradication initiatives. The use of this model implies new ICT technologies application, which enables identification of high probability locations for the sources of malaria and the subsequent disease eradication at the lowest costs. These technologies include ArcGIS 10 for mapping of malaria “hot spots”, and the use of content analysis software NVivo9 for identifying sociological implications occurring at the identified “hot spots.” In 2012, AIMEP expanded the intervention model to include a feasibility study on water purification equipment use in Ugandan rural areas. This paper offers a case study of the AIMEP 2012 project implementation in Uganda.
