Abstract :
This paper proposes a scheme for sensor deployment design aimed at optimal coverage of the monitoring area with minimum number of sensor nodes for antisubmarine detection in Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UWASNs). The scheme uses Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for determining the sensor node positions based on transmission range, attenuation and water depth. The designed deployment strategy promises robust routing, and better utilization of resources along with the information retrieval at a faster pace. The scheme is simulated in several underwater scenarios and an analysis is performed to study the coverage area depending on transmission range, number of nodes and depth.
