Abstract
One of the useful haptic technology applications in a car is warning and menu control in order to reduce or avoid accidents. Warning and menu control systems have been separated due to the limitations of the position that can apply to both warning and menu control, furthermore, existing menu control system cannot express large number of information through tactile stimuli. This paper presents a preliminary evaluation result based on a novel haptic interface system that integrates warning and menu control in the steering wheel spinner. We investigate how to make the effective stimuli using the eccentric rotating mass (ERM) motor through multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis. Main result shows that switching multiple vibration motors can make significant differences in stimuli perception.
