Abstract :
The experiment used a patented psycho-verbal stimulation interface to study the utility of cognitive visual N400 evoked potential in detecting the reading process. The acquisition was performed in Oz, Pz, Cz, Fz leads, on a group of 50 normal persons, at three type of list contained each 500 paragraphic modified words: unreadable non-words, readable non-words and pseudowords. Grand AVG function was used for the average-group recordings at each task and statistic SPSS software based on ANOVA method was used to identify the differences in amplitude per each 17 of 100 ms under-intervals with 50 ms interspersed periods in 1000 ms time window acquisition, between pseudowords and unreadable non-words traces and between pseudowords and readable non-words traces. The N400 component was generated both for readable non-words (t = 3.66; p <; 0.01), and for pseudowords (t = 6.25; p <; 0.01). The unreadable non-words trace reveals the lack of N400 (t = 1.15; p > 0.05) and an impoverishment in late reverberations (t = 1.10; p > 0.05). These findings are arguments that N400 has not necessarily lexical-letter specificity, but moreover N400 reflects the capacity of words to be readable and to wear a meaning.
