  • Abstract
A novel approach for the reconstruction of depth dependent permittivity profile of the planar dispersive media from bandpass reflection data is presented. The proposed technique is based on the solution of the inverse scattering problem for the inhomogeneous planar media, and requires the measurement of reflection coefficient data at the surface of the corresponding stratified media. The solution of the inverse scattering problem is facilitated by the newly derived integral transform, which is the modified form of the conventional Fourier transform valid under situations where the spectral domain reflection data are present only over a band of frequencies. The overall technique is also made applicable for the dispersive media such as the rectangular waveguides by separating the spectral and the spatial variables in an innovative way. The proposed approach is validated by reconstructing the inhomogeneous permittivity profile of a number of multilayered and stratified media using the proposed approach.
