Abstract :
An internal thin-type LTE/WWAN antenna capable to be integrated in a small notched corner of a shaped system ground plane of a mobile phone is presented. The shaped ground plane has another large rectangular notch such that the handset battery can be embedded therein to decrease the thickness of the mobile phone. The proposed antenna has two short monopole strips connected to a feeding point through a 50-ohm microstrip line. One monopole strip is printed on the dielectric substrate and forms a coupling loop with a part of edges of the small notched corner for generating stronger surface current around the corner, to excite a long printed parasitic grounded strip generating a wide operating bandwidth to cover the lower LTE700/GSM850/ 900 bands. The other monopole strip has a low-profile structure and can generate another wide operating bandwidth to cover the higher GSM1800/1900/UMTS/LTE2300/2500 bands successfully.
