Abstract
A new approach is proposed in this paper to generate and radiate pulse signals by coupling two resonant circuits. In this approach, the primary resonant circuit is excited by a sinusoidal source while it is isolated from the secondary resonator with a switch. The secondary resonant circuit consisting of an electrically small antenna in series with a matching inductor initially rests in a zero state. When the switch changes state, the two resonant circuits with the same resonant circuits exchange energy between each other. Partial of the energy coupled from the primary circuit is radiated through the antenna. A pulse signal is formed with the switch changing back to its initial state when the energy in the secondary resonator reaches the minimum. Simulation results are presented demonstrating generation of a 6.8 ns Gaussian-shaped pulse signal that is radiated through a small dipole by using the proposed design.
