Abstract
Several methods for cancellation of the mutual inductance between collocated loops are discussed. We examine the current literature base and then propose an extension to the circuit theory solution by introduction of an additional reactive element that may be used by the practicing engineer. The value of this approach is that the engineer may select an arbitrary and appropriate mechanical position for this element based on practical considerations when geometrical decoupling has proven elusive. Collocated loops, particularly coplanar loops, are used in a number of areas related to phased arrays, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which was the inspiration for this work.
