Abstract :
Field expressions of ground wave excitation by horizontal electric dipoles (HED) that are elevated above a homogeneous earth are rigorously derived. Comparison is made with vertical electric dipole excitation. It is shown that the received fields of an HED feature a 1/ρ2 decay in the far zone. The received fields increase with heights of the transmitting and receiving dipoles. Unlike the VED sources, the received fields of HED increase with the operating frequency.
