Abstract
A segmented monopole antenna is proposed for operation at 2.44 GHz with total length of one-half wavelength. The antenna segments are interconnected by lumped reactances that are optimized to tune the monopole for either single-tuned or double-tuned performance. The antenna is analyzed as a transmitter in free space above an infinite ground plane using a method-of-moments solver. The single-tuned antenna design demonstrates a simulated impedance bandwidth of 8.5% with peak directivity of 7.7 dBi, while the double-tuned design shows an impedance bandwidth of 33.4% with peak directivity of 7.1 dBi.
