Abstract
Artificial impedance surface antennas (AISAs) radiate by leaking surface waves from a spatially-modulated artificial impedance surface (AIS) whose modulation is designed to produce a preferred radiation pattern and polarization. Using the AISA radiation integral, a simple equation is obtained that quickly computes the modulation pattern for an AISA with arbitrary radiation angle and polarization. The versatility of that equation is demonstrated with examples that show how to design various linearly and circularly-polarized AISAs with tensor or scalar modulation.
