Abstract :
A deterministic ray-tracing model was used to investigate the performance of modified linear arrays for multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) systems. The environment considered was one in which the various signal components were likely to be highly correlated for many channel instances. The array modifications were done to improve the spectral efficiency of the channel in such circumstances. The modified arrays were found by using an iterative process based on the Metropolis algorithm. Results are presented which show that some configurations provide a general improvement in system performance compared to the non-adjusted case for most channel realisations in the model and are near optimum.
