Abstract :
In this paper performance of several transmission line switching overvoltage limitation techniques are analyzed and compared with each other. Application of closing resistors, intermediate surge arresters and controlled switching methods are simulated and analyzed. The effects of simultaneous application of the mentioned techniques are also investigated. The results of this comprehensive study help the utilities to properly select the suitable switching overvoltage limitation technique. Simulations and analyses are performed using a real 400 kV transmission line.
