Abstract
This paper describes ways how to enhance energy efficiency and throughput in mobile communication networks. Thus, a solution based on two-tier architecture consisting of macrocells and femtocells is analyzed. We explore how to deploy and manage a mobile cellular network with femtocells in order to achieve better energy efficiency, satisfy demands for higher throughput and treat the environment in a greener manner. The paper contains overview of basic cellular network performance parameters which are analytically calculated for different network architectures. Comparisons with the results obtained using an appropriate simulation tool are also presented. It is clearly shown that the considered two-tiers architecture enables significant energy efficiency and throughput improvements in cellular mobile networks.
