Abstract :
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and the energy management system (EMS) have been used extensively in power generation systems. This paper presents the design and application of a novel SCADA and battery EMS (BEMS) for a multi-type battery-energy-storage system (BESS) tested at the State Energy Smart Grid Technology R & D Center of the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) located in Zhangbei, Hebei province, the People´s Republic of China (PRC). The realtime SCADA and BEMS were developed based on web technology and TCP/IP communication networks. A Zhangbei multi-type energy-storage laboratory was built to combine a 1 MW/1h lithium-ion BESS, a 0.65 MW/4h lithium-ion BESS, a 500 kW/2h Vanadium Redox Batteries (VRBs) energy-storage system, a 700 kWh lead-acid BESS, and other energy storage systems. Control strategies for the hybrid wind/BESS power system and its application to the laboratory were formulated based on the experimental results for several typical applications of a large-scale BESS.
