Abstract :
The paper presents a systematic design optimization process of a 4kW interior permanent magnet machine (IPMM) with distributed windings (DW) for low speed applications. The paper discusses various steps that were taken to minimize the cogging torque, torque ripple and the overall size of the machine. The design optimization was conducted using two-dimensional finite element analysis (CEDRAT FLUX 2D).
