Abstract :
• Proof-of-concept demonstrated for transferring and using NOAA´s HRRR weather models in high-fidelity piloted flight simulation environment • Piloted simulation experiment completed (10 commercial airline crews) - Crews felt the weather environment was realistic and that there was good coordination of weather effects with displayed information • Based on preliminary analysis of questionnaire data only: - Wxdid not significantly affect workload, situation awareness, attention demand/supply, or understanding • Experiment design did capture span of workload levels (one goal of the design) • PF & PM groups rated their attention supplies and understanding as “High”, despite minimal training • Established a basis for future studies of weather-related Vehicle System Safety Technologies
