Abstract :
Old manuscripts are very valuable for many countries since they act as a channel for transferring information and knowledge across generations. In this paper, we address the problem of manuscripts restoration, a very challenging problem in the case of old manuscripts. We treat in particular the case of Algerian manuscripts which are a real wealth for the country but are much degraded due to physical conditions and human manipulations. The aim of this paper is to overview the state of the art of old document restoration and to propose a restoration method based on texture inpainting for Algerian manuscripts. Experiments are conducted on synthetic and real images of Algerian manuscripts.
