Abstract
Security and authenticity is of utmost importance in the modern world. Barcodes have been extensively used for automatic product identification purposes for a wide range of real time applications. Holograms have been used to fight against counterfeits and to reduce forgery. Incorporating the idea of barcodes into holograms provide two level security against counterfeiting. This paper introduces a method to increase security and authenticity in product identification by using holographic barcodes. The unique and user defined product identification code provided for each product is converted into Quick Response (QR) Code. The QR Code generated is then converted into a hologram, thus providing a high profile security to the product. In this work, Holographic barcodes using Computer generated holograms are implemented using Matlab. The decoding of the barcode reconstructed from the hologram gives the corresponding product identification number assigned for the product.
