Abstract :
In this paper, we propose an SNR-dependent diversity measure that quantifies the amount of correlation and diversity present in MIMO propagation channels. The measure is used to compare the diversity of 4×4 space-polarization (SP), 2×2 dual-polarized (DP) and 2×2 co-polarized (CP) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. To enable the performance evaluation a wideband mobile-to-mobile channel model based on geometry-based stochastic channel model (GSCM) is employed. The simulation results show that, in the case of constant transmit power, the average diversity measure of 4×4 SP-MIMO is up to four times than that of 2×2 CP-MIMO counterparts, depending upon the SNR, in a variety of multipath propagation environments.
