Abstract
Rain rate and rain attenuation for the satellite communication signals in Ku band are analyzed and simulated. They are also measured simultaneously by using a rain gauge and spectrum analyzer. Moreover we studied the relation between rain rate and rain attenuation and compared the result with the estimated International Telecommunication Union Radio Communication Sector. The difference between the prediction and the measurement is discussed in the paper. To improve the accuracy of the forecasting model, a modified algorithm is proposed and the ITU-R forecasting model is corrected by using the massive measured data. Experiment results suggest it is necessary to do experiments during long time to get enough data for deep understanding the relation between rain attenuation and rain rate at different stations.
