Abstract :
Discovering experts is an imperative practical problem in the field of medical sciences (Medicine) these days. Both manual and automated approaches are employed and have their own benefits and pitfalls. Generally, measuring one´s expertise uses one metric (facet) like number of publications and to build a comprehensive profile of the expert, a multi-metric technique is proposed here with user defined weight-age constants for each metric and it also identifies that using multiple metrics for ranking of experts, is better than using one metric. This approach is further modelled using collaborative system architecture. We use two data sources Google Scholar and PubMed to get data about metrics to locate and rank medical experts and we evaluate our results for top 10 experts in 40 different sub-categories of the medical science. Further, results were evaluated by exploring each expert´s available information on the world wide web. We observed that 72% of the experts have some kind of distinctions like; awards they received, honours, patents, grants for Projects, books written, affiliations with renowned institutions, Editors/Reviewers of famous Journals etc.
