  • Abstract
To investigate the influence of acid on thermal aging of oil-paper insulation, formic acid and stearic acid are added in the oil to achieve 0.3mgKOH/g. The time taken by the acid to reach balance in the oil-paper insulation is measured, under different temperature of 20°C, 70°C and 100°C, as well as different initial moisture contents of 0.2% and 3.0%. After the distribution of acid in paper reaches to equilibration, the degree of polymerization (DP) of the paper at different aging stages are compared and analyzed. Experimental results show that formic acid is easy to dissolve in paper, while stearic acid is easy to dissolve in oil. Temperature and moisture content influence slightly on the distribution of the acid in oil-paper insulation. Formic acid influences significantly on the aging of paper, while stearic acid almost does not influence on the aging of paper.
