Abstract :
A novel printed elliptical planar monopole patch antenna with a wide bandwidth is proposed. It is composed of an elliptical shape patch and a square shape ground plane, both are printed on the same side of a substrate and feed is given by a symmetrical coplanar wave guide which is connected to the antenna. The proposed system uses only two layers instead of three layers which helps in the improvement of gain and bandwidth and also reduces size and cost. The experimental and simulation results show that both the theoretical and practical values are nearly equal. This antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 68% for VSWR<;2 and antenna exhibits omnidirectional radiation pattern. The proposed model is placed on a material of dielectric constant of εr equal to 2.2(Rogers TR 5880(loss free)) with the size of 52*52*1.5mm. The ground plane is square shape of 24*24 in size, and antenna obtained a gain of 4.5dbi to 6.14dbi in the pass band. The proposed antenna is fabricated and the simulation results are compared to the measurement results to prove the superiority of the antenna.
