Abstract :
This paper focuses on the various aspects of Power Quality and describes the recent advances in Power Quality monitoring systems and the software analysis of the same. With the increase in the addition of non-linear loads to electrical systems, it has become necessary to ensure that voltage degradation does not occur at the transmission or distribution stage. Various practical problems associated with Power Quality namely Harmonic Distortions, Sags/Swells, Under/Over Voltages and Transients are major reasons for low quality power signals. Advanced monitoring systems are now being used to categorize these disturbances and variations. This paper highlights the data retrieved from such monitoring systems as well as the methods of analyzing various problems associated with the quality of power. The paper also provides suitable corrective measures that can be applied to improve power quality.
