Abstract :
Vehicle´s emission quality needs to be analysed and fine tuned as soon as it degrades below a safe limit. In countries like India vehicle emission quality is checked very rarely, hence the quality of the emission is very low than the standards. In order to monitor this we need a system which analyses it. Installing emission quality monitors in each and every vehicle will prove to be costly not just to the owner but is also difficult to install and maintain besides the fact that it may not be preferred by a common man. Thus we propose a system which aims to monitor a vehicle´s emission while it waits in a signal. All vehicles are sorted out in terms of their length into different lanes in a signal where sensors are installed accordingly. The quality of emission of each vehicle is analysed separately and recorded. If the vehicles emission is found below the standards then the number plate of the vehicle is recorded using a lane camera that is installed. Using image recognition software the license plate number is ripped out and an SMS is sent to the owner of the vehicle to control his emission standards. As the data accumulates in the database, it is sent to the officials monitoring it. The police in the signal also have an interface through which he can immediately spot the vehicles that are defaulting. A complete simulation was carried out using an OMRON PLC and its results are also presented in the paper.
