Abstract :
This paper describes a novel texture based multilateral filter in a joint feature space including the spatial, color and texture features. Bilateral filter with spatial and color information is effective in smoothing image while preserving edges and details, however, on edges with similar color, edge blurring is inevitable. Based on the suppose that edges with similar color have different texture features on both sides, the proposed filter combines the texture information as an additional feature, then image is smoothed while preserving detailed structures. The proposed filter is tested in the context of bilateral filter and some edge preserving filters. Experimental results and quantitatively analysis indicate that the improved filter is more effective than bilateral filter and other filters in edge preserving image smoothing.
