Abstract :
A prediction of vessels movements helps to improve safety of navigation. In an arbitrary water area, the prediction information of vessels to be encountered can be provided by observing inbound/outbound vessels for ports. This study proposes a prediction table representing leeway and arrival time at each waypoint. Given the table, the encounted vessels are predicted at a waypoint of interest. The prediction is made on the basis of traffic speed, and the past ship record. The proposed table can be effectively used to improvement maritime situation awareness by VTS operators and mariners.
