Abstract
The architecture of the UPS based on PEM Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is investigated. Firstly, the output characteristics of PEMFC are studied. High efficiency power conversion from hydrogen energy to electric power is emphasized. The characteristics match between PEMFC and load is another key issue. Energy & power management for FC-UPS is explored to satisfy both the load dynamics and PEMFC optimal operation condition. Furthermore, a seamless transition strategy among UPS operating modes is investigated. In addition, in order to enhance system reliability, a novel design method eliminating electrolytic capacitors is explored. Finally Super UPS concept is proposed and explained, which is targeted for extremely reliable applications.
