Abstract :
A method for reducing lost events in LOR rebinning using axially extended sinograms was evaluated in phantom and awake rat studies. The results suggest that a relatively small number of additional virtual detector rings leads to a sizeable reduction in lost events, reducing noise levels, and less affected by the blurring associated with the more simplistic SSRB approach. Although use of additional virtual rings increases computation load by requiring larger sinograms, we postulate that this may still provide a suitable `middle ground´ approach between SSRB and a full list mode reconstruction.
