Abstract :
We demonstrate an approach to integrate the most efficient thermal tuner (4.9-μW/GHz) into a microdisk modulator without sacrificing junction area for the first time. The 6-um diameter modulator achieves low-power (11-fJ/bit) and high-speed (13-Gb/s) operation.
