Abstract :
Lots of different kinds of simulators have been developed with low developing efficiency and large effort to make minor changes in practice. We used VRML to describe the objects of submarine cable operation equipments and their behaviors, used user-defined formulas stored in database to control the function of these objects. Therefore, a "Principle Machine(PM)" was completed. Furthermore, we used database to store the training subjects running on the PM. This subject virtual machine (SVM) is designated to be independent of PM. By constructing the SVM and PM for each submarine cable operation equipments with the help of operators instead of programmers, the simulator was built within 3 months with excellent performance shown at the end of the paper. With the concepts of PM and SVM, the whole application platform has good flexibility, maintainability and scalability, and can be expected to use broadly.
