Abstract :
This paper aims to develop and design Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controllers for a small-scale low-cost Wind Generation System (WGS). Two controllers have been designed based on a Sliding Mode Control (SMC) scheme. One controller uses the measurement of rotation speed and the second controller is independent of mechanical speed measurements and the rotational speed is estimated indirectly. SMC has not been widely used in WGS applications compared to the PI control strategy. The dynamic model of the WGS system has been developed in the dq reference frame. The proposed controllers have been simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. Finally, a comparison between the two controllers has been discussed based upon the dynamic performance of the system.
