  • Abstract
The problem of designing coordinated control strategy for on-ramp and adjacent intersection in urban expressway network is considered in this paper. Short-term traffic volume forecasting and incident detection are adopted for the estimation of traffic conditions, which are categorized into different states according to traffic flow saturation level. Adjacent intersection traffic signal control, on-ramp metering and the combination of these two ways are respectively used in these different traffic conditions to reduce the traffic congestion. The simulation software Tran Modeler and its related secondary developing tool GISDK are applied to building on-line simulation platform. The proposed coordinated control strategy is tested in this simulation platform. The result shows that it can dynamically increase the traffic flow of urban expressway and reduce the total delay time.
