Abstract
This paper present a Transform based compression technique for Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Data compression consists of direct data compression and transformation methods .To handle huge amount of ECG data for analysis, storage and transmission, we require an efficient data compression technique. The selected technique must reduce the data as much as possible and at the same time retain the important features of the clinical significant signal for cardiac diagnosis. A new compression technique is proposed in this paper. The technique uses only the QRS complex of ECG signal & it is passed through hybrid stage consisting of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). A threshold based technique is employed to achieve better compression ratio. The threshold helps to select a suitable value of Percentage Root Mean Square Difference (PRD).
