Abstract :
This paper deals with modeling and simulation of current Source Inverter (CSI) based Static Series Compensator (SSC). Series compensation is the basic foundation for power electronics based compensators. Its highly effective in controlling the desired voltage profile along the transmission line interconnecting two buses of the ac system. An eight bus system is chosen as the test system. The system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Voltage sag is created by increase in load. Generally voltage source inverter(VSI) is used as a Static Shunt Compensators or STATCOM to compensate for voltage deviations at a bus. This paper presents the investigations into application of a CSI as a Series Compensator in a multi-machine system to compensate for voltage deviations. The performance of CSI is compared with that of a VSI and a Push Pull converter connected in series. The results are presented for an eight bus system.
