  • Abstract
Power Crisis has been a long clamour in India and this seems to persist for the coming decade or so. Exergy analysis of coal fired thermal power plants show that after the boiler, the maximum exergy destruction takes place in the condenser and the turbine. The present study puts forward the exergy based analysis of a power plant as the way to approach the analysis of a power plant. This paper presents a methodology to evaluate the performance of a condenser and turbine used in a coal based thermal power plant using the graph theoretic approach (GTA). Factors affecting the performance of a condenser and turbine and their interactions are analyzed. For an energy deficient country like India it is important to carry out the exergy analysis of the existing power plants so that their efficiencies can be improved to meet the energy requirements in future.
