Abstract
To optimize the playback quality in H.264/SVC transmission, a distortion based selective packet discarding scheme for H.264/SVC is presented in this paper. The method can precisely discard the packets with lowest lost-impact if bandwidth is overloaded. Lost-impact of each packet is evaluated by our distortion estimating function which takes macroblock level information, temporal error propagation and validity precondition into account. The simulation shows our scheme outperforms all referenced approaches, improving 3dB averagely.
