Abstract :
In developed cities in China, physical bookshops will still play an important role in enriching people´s cultural life. Because of the serious sameness of their products and pressure from digital publishing and online sellers, there is strong demand for Chinese physical bookshops to stage experience in order to make differentiation and perform competitive. This paper is aiming at developing a design strategy to create a holistic experience for a physical bookshop in developed cities in China in order to be competitively and be able to promote the local lifestyle. The question “how to apply design for creating unique retail experience for a physical bookshop in developed cities in China” has been discussed and the following factors have been formulated: involving people by culture and reading, engaging them by educating and cultivating loyalty, infecting by diversified pleasurable offerings and associating with customers by individual concern. These four stages will ensure the retail experience to be a circle and people will like to come back to a bookshop.
