Abstract :
Automotive Idle Speed Control is a critical issue in engine control fields. Essentially it is a highly nonlinear and time-varying problem. Its performance has a significant impact on fuel economy, emission levels, combustion stability, transient response, noise and vibration characteristics. This work aims at presenting a model-based control strategy for fuel consumption reduction during idle speed applied to Spark Ignition engine. It is based on Linear-Quadratic control and the results of the proposed engine control strategy are finally compared with experimental data collected by a 1.4 liter Fiat engine, showing good reliability and excellent performance.
