On lossy image compression using adaptive wavelet filters

Adaptive Wavelet-based Coding is a new technique where instead of using a fixed wavelet filter for coding and decoding all images, different filters are used for different images. Since there is no single filter that gives the maximum PSNR for all images, adaptive selection and usage of wavelet filters improves the coding performance. In this paper, we discuss a methodology for adaptive wavelet filter selection, and analyze the performance of such adaptive wavelet-based lossy image coders.
