Abstract
The sensor and actuator locations of an open-loop system influence the controllability and observability properties of a system. Therefore, one problem consists in finding the optimal, in a certain sense, sensor or/and actuator configuration. This is the problem addressed in this paper. It is formalized as optimization problems with different level of complexity depending on the assumptions made. A simple example illustrates the problematic.
