Abstract :
The paper describes a method for detecting and identifying faults that occur in the sensors and actuators of quantised dynamical system described by a qualitative model. The paper is based upon a solution to sensor and actuator fault diagnosis for systems with discrete input and outputs. The solution scheme is similar to the generalised observer scheme that has been proposed several years ago for continuous-variable systems. The applied scheme consists of two parts. The first part detects the existence of a sensor or actuator faults while the second is used for fault identification. It is shown that the models used in the observers can be obtained from the overall model of the quantised system in a simple way. Experimental results illustrate the proposed diagnostic method.
