Abstract :
Power losses of a magnetic amplifier employed as a pulse width modulator are discussed on a typical forward converter driven in high frequency switching. The loss consists of an iron loss, a switching loss and a copper loss. The analysis is given by the examination of core properties and the reverse recovery of the diode in the converter circuit. As a result, the losses are derived as a function of the switching frequency and load current.
