Abstract
In this paper a discrete time controller for a class of discrete time system is presented. The controller design is based on the variable structure theory and it uses artificial neural networks to provide an on line modelling. An adaptive term is added to the original variable structure algorithm, in order to reduce the chattering problem as the ANN learns the system dynamic. Simulations and experimental results are presented.
