Isolated handwritten Bangla character recognition using 1D discrete wavelet transform

Bangla is one of the most popular scripts in the Indian sub-continent and a good percentage of the Indian population write Bangla on a regular basis. For the automatic recognition of the contents of such handwritten Bangla documents it is essential to develop a robust OCR for Bangla characters. In this vein this paper presents a new method for the recognition of isolated Bangla handwritten character using 1D wavelet transform on the projection profile of the handwritten characters. The system complexity decreases considerably.
