Abstract :
The purpose of the present study is to propose a system to control artificial ventilation for respiratory failure patients. The proposed system is designed based on adaptive control theory The non-linearity of a respiratory regulation system and its characteristic changes are regarded as deviations of the parameters of the mathematical models by the concept of the adaptive system. Thus, it provides an accurate control of alveolar CO, tension and arterial O2 saturation by manipulating alveolar ventilation rate and inspired oxygen tension, coping with the effect of changing metabolic state. The proposed system is confirmed to be useful for the control of artificial ventilation by numerical simulations.
